In June 2024, we met Ibis under heartbreaking circumstances. He was thrown out of a car window in front of a hotel where we used to stay in Ceará, discarded like trash. The hotel employees witnessed it happen. Since then, Ibis stayed nearby, drawn to the only kindness he knew: us. We visited him every day, feeding him morning and night. He waited for us, trusted us. And we couldn’t leave him behind. We named him Ibis, after the hotel. We even asked the hotel to help with his neuter surgery and medication during recovery. But sadly, we know the answer was no. Like so many others, they look the other way when it comes to animals in need. We knew we couldn’t risk leaving him behind, not with the hotel located right next to a dangerously busy road. Stray animals in Brazil face unimaginable suffering. Ibis wouldn’t stand a chance alone.
