Many of you are familiar with our rescue donkey pair, Cora and Cosmo. Their story is one of heartbreak and resilience. In February 2024, they were tragically attacked by dogs in a neighboring state. Cora’s situation was especially heartbreaking—she’s a senior donkey who couldn’t defend herself against the aggressive dogs. Cosmo, being younger and stronger, was able to kick the dogs away and protect himself, but his loyalty and courage shone through as he stayed by Cora’s side throughout the entire attack. Now Cosmo is living his best life at our sanctuary… though he’s no longer with Cora, and that’s entirely his own doing! Cosmo has a mischievous streak and just couldn’t help stirring up trouble with the larger herd. Always looking to start playful chaos, we had to move him into a smaller group where he can be his rambunctious self without picking too many donkey fights!
